Bob has been in public accounting since 1971. He spent 21 years in four Midwest cities of a "Big 4" CPA firm, with ten years as a tax partner in that firm. Bob is the JANSEN VALK THOMPSON REAHM PC founder and former Managing Principal. He is currently a Principal in the firm.

WORK HISTORY

June 1971 through June 1973: Staff, Gunkel Morton & Associates, CPAs, Madison, Wisconsin.

July 1973 through July 1994: Senior through Partner, Ernst & Ernst, Ernst & Whinney and Ernst & Young, LLP, in their Milwaukee, South Bend, Columbus and Kalamazoo offices.

August 1994 through June 2009: Managing Principal, JANSEN VALK THOMPSON & REAHM PC, Kalamazoo.

July 2009 to the present: Principal, JANSEN VALK THOMPSON & REAHM PC, Kalamazoo.

EXPERIENCE

Bob’s client service experience ranges across several industries, with primarily privately held, entrepreneurial companies. Bob also serves a number of the firm’s not-for-profit organization clients. In addition to providing audit, review and compilation services and tax compliance and consulting services, he provides business consulting, financial planning, trust and estate consulting, litigation support primarily in connection with divorce matters and taxpayer representation services.

Effective July 1, 2009, Jim Valk is the firm’s Managing Principal and Bob is devoting more of his time to the client services detailed above.

PERSONAL DATA

Bob was born in Appleton, Wisconsin and grew up in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. He graduated from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin in 1971 with a BBA Degree in Accounting.

Bob and his wife, Judy live in Portage, Michigan.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

As an Eagle Scout himself, and as the father of an Eagle Scout, Bob’s community service has always included an interest in scouting. From 1991 through 1999, Bob served on the Executive Board of the Southwest Michigan Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was the Council’s Trust and Investment Committee Chair.

In November, 2002, the SW Michigan Council of BSA recognized Bob with its Silver Beaver award for distinguished service to youths.

As an Eagle Scout himself, and as the father of an Eagle Scout, Bob’s community service has always included an interest in scouting.


Bob was also the Secretary-Treasurer of Kalamazoo Country Club, serving in that capacity from 1994 to 2001.

Bob has contributed his time in a variety of ways in both the Milwaukee and Kalamazoo United Way campaigns and for many years was a member of the Campaign Cabinet of the Greater Kalamazoo United Way.


He currently serves on the Endowment Committee of Family and Childrens' Services in Kalamazoo.

Bob has also been involved in Kalamazoo and other cities in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization (one of the founders of the Milwaukee BB/BS organization and its first Treasurer), the Jaycees (past officer in the Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin Jaycees) and Junior Achievement (Kalamazoo JA board member for six years and its 1995-1996 chairman).

Bob also served on the Western Michigan University Department of Accounting Advisory Council from its inception in 1996 through 2002.

PROFESSIONAL

Bob is a member of the AICPA and MACPA, and has an active CPA license in Wisconsin and Michigan (previously also licensed in Indiana and Ohio).
